Shepherd Huts

Handcrafted, tailor made, bespoke shepherd huts, built to a high standard on our premises at Coed y Cardi, using locally sourced timber.

Shepherd huts designed and built here at Coed y Cardi are based on the traditional shepherd hut ( or shepherd wagon) which dates back as far as the 15th century and were primarily used by shepherds in the hills of Wales and other parts of the country, to provide shelter during the lambing season and from which they could tend to their flocks.

The layout of our shepherd huts consists of a fitted kitchen which includes a sink, living/dining area with the addition of a wood burning stove in one corner and a separate double bedroom with a built-in bed.

Built on a strong steel chassis with steel wheels and drawbar, the structure consists of overlapping planks of larch or oak , resulting in a sturdy and durable finish. The rounded roof is constructed from coated corrugated sheets.

The walls are insulated and the interior is finished in tongue and groove boarding which is milled and machined by us at Coed y Cardi.

The floor is made of solid wood with underfloor heating in place.

The hardwood entrance door comes as a double french door or stable door to suit your requirements. The windows are handcrafted in oak and both windows and doors are spray painted and colour co-ordinate with the exterior fascia.
